Monofilament Fibers

PSI Monofilament Fibers are high strength 100% virgin polypropylene synthetic fibers specifically engineered and manufactured for use as secondary reinforcement in ready mix concrete and cement-based building products. Monofilament fibers protect concrete from the stresses which cause cracking when concrete is most vulnerable – during the first 24 hours after placement.

Monofilament Fibers PSI Monofilament Fibers meet the material specifications described in ASTM C-1116, Type III, Section 4.1.3 "Synthetic Fiber-Reinforced Concrete and Shotcrete." PSI Monofilament Fibers are engineered to disperse uniformly throughout the entire concrete matrix creating a very effective multi-dimensional secondary reinforcement system for the reduction of plastic shrinkage cracking.

PSI Monofilament Fibers create an internal support system which results in more uniform bleeding. Uniform bleeding limits the formation of bleed water capillaries and discourages segregation and settlement of the concrete's ingredients.

PSI Monofilament Fibers do not affect the chemical hydration of the cement and are compatable with all concrete mixes and admixtures. Typically, no mix design changes are required. PSI Monofilament Fibers are chemically inert and are unaffected by the long-term moist and high alkaline environment of concrete. PSI Fibers will not rust, rot, corrode or absorb any water.

PSI Fibers are always positioned in compliance with codes, automatically. PSI Fibers require no minimum amount of cover and are safe and easy to use. Applications include, but are not limited to: slabs on grade, composite decks, precast concrete products, sidewalks, driveways, thin overlays and toppings, barrier walls, stucco, slope paving, pools, tilt-up panels, water tanks, shotcrete and gunite applications.

Application Rate

The standard recommended application rate for PSI Monofilament Fibers is .75 lbs to 3.0 lbs per cubic yard depending on the performance requirements. PSI Fibers can be added directly to the concrete mixing system before, during or after the batching of the other ingredients and should be mixed at the time and speed recommended by the mixer manufacturer (usually four to five minutes). Additional mixing does not adversely affect the distribution or the overall performance of our PSI Fibers.

The addition of PSI Monofilament Fibers at the recommended application rates to a given mix may appear to decrease the slump. The workability, however, will not be affected and additional water should not be added. Contact your local PSI Fiber Representative for alternate application rates used in specialty applications.

Mix Designs

The addition of PSI Monofilament Fibers at the normal recommended application rate does not require any mix design changes.

Finishing

PSI Fiber reinforced concrete can be finished by any finishing technique. PSI Fibers do not affect the finishing characteristics of concrete. Millions of individual PSI Monofilament Fibers provide a micro-reinforcement system that is invisble on the surface. They are noncorrosive, alkaliproof and will not stain the concrete surfaces. PSI Fibers are compatible with power troweled, hand troweled, colored, stamped, dry shake and broom finished concrete.
